Tribal hindu. Lalan tribe. Came here 40 years ago to work on farms. Don’t own land. HHH drives a truck locally.

First village in which we see dogs. Houses not arranged around a central courtyard. Distinct parameters with stick fences.

Dish TV antenna in the yard. Cycle. Ducks, pigs, cat in the yard. House made of mud/ thatch. Hand pump area cordoned off from 3 sides using plastic sheets. 1 side wide open fields. Used as shower area. Public toilets at the back, built by mela committee for mela. After mela, 3 families who live close to it have been using. They carry water from own yard.

3 sons. All in school: 9th, 7th, 3rd grade.

Most people here do rice farming.

This house we walked in and Chameli led. Should I be doing more?

Grandmother of HHH comes trotting from neighbouring house. Must be around 90—I think that’s where the conversation went.

No fisheries because hindu.

Cement factory here for 2 years. Doesn’t employ locals.

HH used to filter water before to save from high iron content. Not doing so anymore.

Granny sits on the edge by fence again.

(Too many cooks so I am not asking more questions)

HHH paid Rs. 250 per day. Earns 7.5k per month driving locally from Jagiroad <-> Malegaon.

Pradhan for this village is different from the one we met yesterday

90 yr old grandma of HHH. One of the first people to arrive, to clear this land. 40 years ago. Only one of her generation left. Misses her husband (and others). Asks me if I am married, asks me if I have a grandma, a grandfather, cries some, tells us to send government aid, “what do you want? Ration/ pension” she says what we name. doesn’t need a toilet—the world is her toilet, laughs. She gets a pension but not enough. Recently, the frequency at which her pension is released has changed.

4 way translations going on: Granny (-> Bahu) -> C ->Me -> E, R.
