When we visited Home 5, the most immediate thing the family said was troubling them was a Rs.2000 bribe they had been forced to give the village's Sarpanch to get a Swatch Baraat toilet, money which ended up subsequently getting 'stuck' somewhere, never to be seen again. The Head of Household number 5 said he registered a complaint with the nearest district court, but nothing came of it. 'Nobody is listening to a manual labourer, so what do I do?' As a consequence of all this, this family generally walks 2km to relieve themselves in the open.
