Home 6
Nabrangpur, Odisha
This household, standing a little distance from the rest of the village, was made up of D, his wife and their son. D and his family were preparing for their move to a new house, a pukka cement house built with help from the Indira Awas Yojna. They did not own any other land or cattle, and worked as daily wage labourers in Manigaon village. The village school only provides classes until year 8, and beyond that children must travel to a school which is further away in another city, 150 kilometres away. Medical facilities in the village are also rudimentary and the area is only serviced by private mobile healthcare professionals as opposed to the less financially stressful option of government healthcare.
